Bryan "Vladek" Hasel was 22 years old, a former U.S. Marine known throughout his Orlando neighborhood for his kindness. He was last confirmed seen on November 6, 2021, and has not been heard from since.
Vladek lived with his father near the University of Central Florida. On November 6, 2021, he visited Foxtail Coffee Co. on University Boulevard, where he was issued a trespass warning by police and calmly left, last seen on body camera footage walking toward a nearby convenience store. A possible sighting nine days later near his apartment complex, and another report that he told someone he was "going off grid," have never been confirmed. When his father returned home on November 15, Vladek was gone, and it appeared he hadn't been staying there during that time.
Born in Russia, Vladek was adopted at age five alongside his sister Irena by an American family, growing up as the youngest of eight siblings. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps after high school and was honorably discharged in 2019. Those who knew him describe someone who made strangers feel like old friends, left generous tips for servers who were struggling, and spent hours with Orlando's unhoused community, buying food and supplies and simply sitting to listen. He had grown interested in religion around the time of his disappearance and spent time praying at a local Catholic church.
Vladek's sister, Bethany Hasel, has led the search for her brother for years, organizing vigils and working to keep his case in front of new audiences. She's connected with other missing-persons advocacy organizations along the way for support.
Vladek's family believes he is alive and that the right tip could still bring him home.
