Since 2022, Gabriela De La Vega has been searching for her daughter, Gabriela Garcia, and her grandchildren, Andres and Aurora Guerrero, after the family lost contact with them.
In 2022, Gabriela's daughter and grandchildren went missing, along with the family dog, Ares. For years, the family had no leads. In March of this year, the family's search took an unexpected turn: Ares was found in Kansas, identified through his microchip, which listed the phone numbers of Gabriela's two daughters. The family traveled to Kansas to bring him home.
Not long after Ares was recovered, the family was contacted by Child Protective Services in Seattle, Washington, who had located Gabriela's grandson. After a series of court hearings, he was placed with his biological father, who had previously lost custody in Michigan. The family says the boy was able to share details of what he and his sister experienced while missing, including that they had been living without stable housing and had lost contact with their mother for periods of time.
Gabriela's daughter and granddaughter have not been located. The family believes they remain with the children's father, who they say has restricted their access to any means of communication.
Gabriela has become an advocate for other families facing similar circumstances, working on what she calls the Auron Law and helping build the Auron Dream Foundation to support families navigating the search for missing loved ones, particularly when systems like HIPAA and jurisdictional gaps between states make it difficult for families to get information or support.
Gabriela continues to search for her daughter and granddaughter, and to advocate for families in similar situations who don't know where to turn.
