Jason Landry, missing since December 2020 near Luling, Texas

Jason Landry Has Been Missing Since December 2020

Jason Landry was a 21-year-old Texas State University student. On the night of December 13, 2020, he left his apartment in San Marcos, Texas, to drive home to his family in Missouri City for the holidays. He never arrived, and has not been seen since.

What happened to Jason?

Jason left San Marcos around 10:55 p.m., expecting a two-to-three hour drive home. Sometime that night, his car crashed on a rural road outside Luling, Texas. His clothes, phone, wallet, and even his pet goldfish were found scattered near the wrecked vehicle — but Jason himself was gone. Investigators later pinged his phone to a location nearly five miles from the crash site, and a 911 dispatcher fielded a report that night of a person matching his description in the area.

How has the search continued?

Since 2022, the Jason Landry Search Team, founded and led by advocate Cyndi Lay, has conducted more than 30 searches for Jason, using volunteers, cadaver dogs, drones, and sonar equipment. The Texas Attorney General's Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit took over the investigation in 2022 and has since conducted forensic testing, issued search warrants, and convened a multi-agency case review involving the FBI, Texas Rangers, and other specialists. A $20,000 reward remains available for information leading to Jason's whereabouts.

Who is advocating for him?

Cyndi Lay has led the volunteer search effort for years, organizing regular searches, awareness events, and community outreach around Luling. She has said she'll continue as long as Jason's family wants the search to go on.
