Molly Bish: Unsolved 2000 Murder of a Massachusetts Teen Lifeguard

On the morning of June 27, 2000, 16-year-old Molly Bish was dropped off by her mother for her second day of work as a lifeguard at Comins Pond in Warren, Massachusetts. Within minutes, she was gone. Her water bottle, sandals, beach chair, towel, whistle, police radio, and an open first aid kit were all left behind, untouched, at her lifeguard post.

The search that followed became the largest missing-person search in Massachusetts history, involving state police, local agencies, volunteers, helicopters, and divers. For three years, there was no trace of her. In June 2003, a local hunter's tip led investigators to a wooded area in nearby Palmer, where Molly's remains were found. Because of the severity of decomposition, a cause of death could never be officially established, but investigators believe she was murdered.

Molly's disappearance and killing remains one of the most haunting unsolved cases in Massachusetts. Her mother, Magi Bish, had noticed an unfamiliar man near Molly's lifeguard post the day before she vanished. Over the years, DNA testing has been run on evidence from the scene in hopes that advances in forensic science could finally identify her killer.

Molly's parents founded the Molly Bish Foundation in the wake of her murder, which has since helped fingerprint, photograph, and create identification cards for tens of thousands of children as part of child safety and abduction-prevention programs.

Her sister, Heather Bish, continues to serve as a victim advocate with the foundation and has used platforms like TikTok to keep Molly's case in public view.
