Wade Taylor was a 38-year-old Marine Corps combat veteran who served four years, including in Afghanistan, before being honorably discharged in 2004. He disappeared from Alamogordo, New Mexico on May 6, 2017.
In the early morning hours of May 6, 2017, Wade showed up at the Otero County Detention Center asking for help and water, saying someone was chasing him. He was injured and dressed only in his underwear. Jail personnel turned him away without assistance. Authorities have said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time, though his sister, Crystal Taylor, has said video from the jail shows Wade coherent and asking for help at the door.
Despite Wade being turned away from the jail in the early hours of May 6, his family wasn't told about the incident until they reported him missing three days later, on May 9. Crystal has said that even after reporting him missing, the family had to file a public records request just to get basic information about what happened, and that what they've been able to learn since has remained limited.
Alamogordo Police have said foul play is suspected in Wade's disappearance, and that there are people of interest in the case, though their names have not been publicly released.
Wade's family has never stopped seeking answers about what happened to him after he sought help and was turned away.
